The current version of this policy is 1.0. Any revisions will be announced and published here.

Preamble

ScriptSource is a service operated by SIL International to serve language communities worldwide. Our primary servers and headquarters are located in Dallas, Texas, USA although we work from multiple locations around the globe. Our postal contact address is ScriptSource, SIL Non-Roman Script Initiative, 7500 West Camp Wisdom Road, Dallas, TX 75236, USA. This Privacy and Data Retention Policy applies only to the users, data and servers of the scriptsource.org online service, and not to other services of SIL International.

General Principles

ScriptSource is aware of the trust you place in us and our responsibility to protect your privacy. We are conscious of the fact that a good community is where people feel comfortable and safe. We will strive to maintain a good atmosphere that allows collaboration but also respects your privacy both as a visitor and as a contributor. We will protect your personal information and never release your details to third parties. Where we give you an opportunity to share personal information with other users, we will always respect your stated preferences. We will never use your personal information for purposes outside of ScriptSource.

Security

Your privacy is taken seriously. All logins are made securely via SSL to prevent abuse of your account details. Physical and software security measures are in place in our data center to guard against loss, misuse or alteration of information you have provided.

Your Account

You may create and use a ScriptSource account, with which you can contribute as you wish and add any personal profile information, both public and private. It is your responsibility to indicate which information you want to publicly disclose in your profile. Using this account you may subscribe to various notifications and give permissions for other members of the site to contact you. We will provide enough information to allow you to make informed choices and we will respect your stated preferences and permissions. To identify you and allow you to contribute, cookies need to be enabled in your browser. Those cookies do not contain any of your personal data.

We reserve the right:

  • To allow ScriptSource administrators to view your personal information.
  • To retain your contributions and personal information indefinitely.
  • To make your account inactive and remove your personal data from the site should the need arise.
  • To contact you at your registered email address for ScriptSource administrative matters.

If you no longer wish to participate in ScriptSource, you can ask for your account to be made inactive. This will result in the following:

  • You will no longer be able to log into your account.
  • You will no longer receive any notifications from the site.
  • Your public and private profile data (other than your user ID and Full Name) will be hidden from view and only available to ScriptSource administrators.
  • Your contributions will remain on the site, and tagged with your user ID and Full Name (now inactive). If you wish your contributions to also be removed, please see our Editorial Policy.

Logs and Statistics

Activity on ScriptSource use may be logged to improve the service and its security - to identify general usage patterns in order to improve the service, to help deal with inquiries and user requests, and to counter spam, unsolicited and inappropriate use of the service. This may include any activity as a logged-in user (contributions, edits) or anonymous visitor (IP address, page views). Data that is identified with your account or IP address will be only used internally, will not be disclosed to others, and will never be used for advertising purposes. Statistics may be generated based on this data and shared with others, but will never contain personally identifying information.

Feedback

We reserve the right to change this policy, but will give adequate notice of changes. You can at any time request that we make your account inactive.

If you have feedback, questions or concerns please use our contact form.
