Comment #2 on 'Proposal to Encode the Newar Script in ISO/IEC 10646' by stephanie_holloway on 2014-02-19 05:40:50

Hi Pat, thanks for letting us know about this proposal. We created an entry about it late last year, but the std.dkuug.dk site was down for a while and I've only just remembered to go back and check that it's up and working again! Sorry for the long delay in responding to you. The entry for this proposal is at http://scriptsource.org/source/j7h78yhc2e and can also be accessed from the 'Sources and References' tab of the Newari script page.

Comment #2 on 'A Survey of the Indigenous Scripts of Liberia and Sierra Leone: Vai, Mende, Loma, Kpelle and Bassa' by stephanie_holloway on 2014-02-05 09:36:04

Unfortunately, we don't have a digital copy of this article, but you can order one from the British Library. If you search their public catalogue for the journal 'African Language Studies' it should bring up a link saying 'I want this'. From there you an order a PDF download of the specific article. It costs about £25-50, depending how quickly you want it.
You might also consider contacting the publisher (School of Oriental and African Studies) directly. I know they have copies of this journal; they may be willing to scan something in for you.
I hope that helps!

Thanks very much, Pat! That's a great sample - in fact, I think it deserves its own entry. Would you be happy either to submit it using the "Add to ScriptSource" button on the left, or for one of us at ScriptSource to submit it as an entry on your behalf? The image would be published under a Creative Commons license, so others would be free to re-use it elsewhere if they wished.

Pat - we've heard rumours of this newspaper before, but our (admittedly brief) enquiries in Kathmandu a couple years ago didn't turn anything up. Do you have a copy or any scanned samples which you'd be willing to share with us?

Comment #2 on 'Devanagari font without shiro-rekha' by stephanie_holloway on 2013-01-15 09:36:03

Hi PKSharma.
Can you explain what you mean by the different 'levels' of the line, or provide a visual example of some text where the line is not level? Or are you referring to vowels like ऐ (ai), which extend above the line?

Comment #3 on 'Script Description' by stephanie_holloway on 2012-07-12 09:36:14

Thank you for your input, Rovasinfo, and for drawing our attention to the confusion surrounding the name. It seems that the name 'Old Hungarian Script' is used by different people to mean different things. ScriptSource follows the ISO 15924 standard for script names so we use this name to refer to the rune-based script, not the Latin-based orthography, and we are not able to change the name to 'Szekely-Hungarian Rovas' unless the ISO 15924 changes. However, we have removed the alternate name 'Hungarian Rune' and the reference to 'underground ethnocentric groups' as you suggest.
